The ViaGottardo is signposted as route 7 (Basel–Chiasso) and 77 (Bargen–Küssnacht am Rigi) of «Hiking in Switzerland».

Practical information


Travel season
The northern part of the ViaGottardo is recommended for walks all year around. The best time is between April and October. However, the central alpine part (Lucerne–Airolo) is open only from June to mid-October.

Routes
The routes are signposted according to Swiss signposting laws. Between Bargen and the Gotthardpass follow route 7 of «Hiking in Switzerland», between Bargen and Küssnacht am Rigi follow route 77 of «Hiking in Switzerland».

Walking times
The walking times are for guidance only, and without breaks.

Equipment
For all hiking tours good hiking boots are needed as well as weatherproof clothing.

All stopover places are accessible by public transport. What is more if you are uneasy about the altitude gain or journey times, you may choose to go part of the way by public transport on many stages.
