Via Le Gruyère AOC and Via L'Etivaz AOC
Cultural Routes of Switzerland is a tourist offer bringing together walks along historical paths and cultural discoveries. Gastronomy, widely represented by the local produce, plays a major part too. Cheese ranks high among the most famous Swiss specialities. It has become famous in the whole world: in the 18th century Diderot’s Encyclopaedia already mentioned gruyère and its export to France. It therefore follows that the Regional Natural Park Gruyère Pays-d’Enhaut should join together with ViaStoria to offer a dual regional and cultural itinerary dedicated to Gruyère AOC and L’Étivaz AOC. From the 16th to the 19th century Gruyère and L’Étivaz widely contributed to the fame of these areas; the merchants were even known as «cheese barons». These left in the landscape and the villages numerous traces of their activities, successes and wealth.
